Learning Approach/Our Curriculum
Emergent curriculum, Interest Web, and Reggio Emilia approach
Creative Munchkins Childcare Centre uses an emergent curriculum inspired by Regio Emilia’s approach. In the Reggio Emilia approach, teachers create the curriculum around children’s interests. This is referred to as Emergent Curriculum. An Emergent curriculum encourages children to make decisions for themselves which allows them to experience the world in their own way. Lesson plans/program planning done by staff is focused on child-directed hands-on activities. Our main emphasis is on learning through play. It is “child lead” learning. Implementing an Emergent Curriculum successfully within a classroom requires creativity, flexibility, observation, documentation, and patience and CMC is proud to have all these components. The Centre’s staff and environment are flexible and offer flexibility to support each child’s interests, needs, and abilities.
